What is domestic violence?

Domestic violence is quote: “Intentional harm against another person, occurring between two people who are having or have had an intimate relationship.”

There are four main types of abuse: Physical, Emotional, Psychological and Sexual.

The Stats

  1. 40% of women murdered are killed by their husbands or “lovers”.

  2. 50% of all injuries presented by women in emergency rooms are the result of abuse.

  3. 21% of all women who use emergency surgical services are battered.

  4. 75% of abusers experienced or witnessed abuse while they were growing up.

Domestic violence exists equally in every socioeconomic group, regardless of race or culture.
